Welcome back to the Lent & Easter Daybook at Restful.

This Lent, we are making space to bless the mourners and to be blessed as mourners. Each Wednesday, we will gather around an image, often a photograph, from this year’s news. I will never share anything graphic, but these images may stir sorrow, anger, and grief. Let all of this become prayer. In prayers of lament, we notice and name the things that are not right in the world, and we do this before the face of God.

I pray today that, in our mourning, we will sense palpably the God who draws near to the brokenhearted, and that we will recognize a holy comfort from the One who suffered death for us and mourns death with us. Most of all, may we bless him.

Let’s Begin

Light a candle as you pray this simple breath prayer:

Inhale: Father, forgive them
Exhale: for they know not what they do.

Repeat slowly until you feel ready to move forward.
