Christ is risen! Alleluia!
We’re in our final weeks of the seven-week festival called Eastertide or The Great Fifty Days, and this week is a big one in the liturgical calendar. This Thursday, May 29, is Ascension Day, which might be fairly familiar to you, but have you heard of the Rogation Days leading up to Ascension?
Read to the bottom of today’s meditation to hear more about the lesser-known festival in the church calendar and one way we can mark these days together!
Today’s letter includes:
Community practices and prayers for the Rogation Sunday
Plus, for paid subscribers
Today’s art and music pairing
Contemplative prompts to help you respond to today’s art
A couple of printable resources to help you celebrate Rogationtide
A sweet little playlist I made to celebrate the gladness of birds.
Now, let’s begin our meditation for the Rogation Sunday
Communion
Read today’s lectionary passages from the Book of Common Prayer (Year C)
Acts 14:8-18; Psalm 67; Revelation 21:1-4, 22 - 22:5; John 14:21-29
Pray out loud the Collect for the Sixth Sunday in Easter from the Book of Common Prayer.
O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Contemplation
Begin with a simple breath prayer from today’s rogation hymn :
Inhale: God, you reign
Exhale: let the earth be glad.
Repeat gently until you sense you are ready to move forward.
Prayerfully contemplate and respond to today’s art and music pairing.
