The Fisherman: The Third Sunday of Epiphanytide

Jan 21, 2024
∙ Paid

Blessed Epiphany, friends!

We’re in our third of walking with Jesus in Epiphanytide’s celebration of witness and revelation! 1

Today’s letter includes:

  • A few thoughts from last week in the church calendar

Plus, for paid subscribers only

  • Practices and prayers, art and music for this week in the church year

  • A reflection on today’s scripture readings

Let's begin.

Last week’s reflection

Last Sunday, the second Sunday in Epiphany, I felt especially struck by Nathaneal’s question to Philip, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” I imagine him slapping his forehead in a kind of shock that’s just hopeful enough that his feet start moving before he finishes the question.

And I love, love, love Philip’s non-anxious response: “Come and see.”

While that stirred thoughts and feelings about our own hometown of Bridgeport, CT, I found so many more layers of meaning while listening to my husband Brian preach on the passage last Sunday morning.

Practices and prayers, art and music for this week in the church year

This week, we are framing our prayer and practice around today’s lectionary passages: Jeremiah 3:19-4:4; Psalm 130; 1 Corinthians 7:17-24; Mark 1:14-202
